Like so many Americans, we emerged from the 2024 presidential election baffled, anxious, saddened, and angry. And, like so many Americans, we knew that we couldn’t keep quiet about any of that. We’ve seen what four years of a Donald Trump presidency looks like and now we’re about to enter another four years of daily distractions, outrage, injustice, and manipulation.
“Uncomfortably Numb” is our in-the-moment attempt to channel all of that uncertainty and angst into a punk anthem. We had to do it for ourselves, and we hope that someone out there can benefit from the cathartic release of singing along with us. We got together in the studio this past Thursday night, two days after votes were cast, and locked ourselves in with our instruments, recording equipment, and cameras for almost five hours, intent on not leaving the room until we had something we could be proud of. And we’re proud of this song. It’s not perfect, and it doesn’t delve into any of the complexities that will come to a head in the coming months and years. But it captures a moment in time for us, and it gave us a chance to scream and yell and flail together.
Skyway stands for unity, togetherness, and inclusivity. We’re against racism, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, and totalitarianism. In this crucial moment, it’s important to us that we draw this line in the sand. While so many of our songs are inward-facing as we write about middle age, growing up, and family life, this one forced us to turn the lens outward on a world fraught with turmoil.
Our good friends 1120 Press released a story about this song that can be read here and also includes the full music video. The song is available on our Bandcamp and across all streaming services.
Together,
Skyway
