Last of a Dying Scene

New single, out 11/08/24

In August 2023 we had the opportunity to open for the ska-punk band Catch 22. At that show, Andrew noticed this older guy – drunk and a little grungy-looking – hanging by himself watching the bands play. That was the initial inspiration for the song – the symbolic last man standing from the previous music scene generation. But in a way, the song is also a little introspective for us. We’re all veteran punk rock fans and so many of the bands we play with are early 20-somethings. We’re the old guys. This song is also about holding on desperately to youth, and we identify with that feeling.

Last of a Dying Scene is a punk anthem that wears its heart on the patched and pinned sleeve of its well-worn denim jacket. Through driving beats and angular guitar riffs, it explores what it means to be the last old guy still going to punk shows when all of your friends have moved on to successful careers and family life, what it really means to be the stalwart remnant of a dying scene.

Self-recorded during the months of July and August 2024, this song defines DIY punk work ethic. Drums were recorded in a defunct church; bass recorded in the church bathroom. Vocals and guitar tracks were completed in several hallways and closets, and a storm cellar.

Last of a Dying Scene is available on all streaming platforms and through Bandcamp beginning November 8th, 2024.
